What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how buyers and sellers use exchange rates when they use different money. They use a simple rate table to convert a price from one currency to another.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can convert a price correctly using a given exchange rate. The student can explain that conversion lets both sides agree on a value and complete the purchase.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think all currencies have equal value or that exchange rates never change. They may reverse the rate when converting or assume sellers must accept any currency.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: If 1 Canadian dollar equals 12 Mexican pesos, how many Canadian dollars pay for a 240-peso item? Explain why conversion is needed.

Write: Why can a Canadian buyer not simply pay every Brazilian seller with Canadian dollars?
Play currency match: Teams pair product prices in two currencies using a posted exchange-rate table.
Compare an online Mexican product price in pesos with its converted Canadian dollar cost, then discuss fees and changing rates.
