What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students place the French and Indian War, Stamp Act, colonial protests, Boston Massacre, and Boston Tea Party in sequence. They explain how war debt and new taxes increased conflict over colonial representation. They compare how the Sons and Daughters of Liberty used protests, boycotts, and homemade goods.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given mixed event cards, students arrange them correctly and explain at least two cause-and-result links. They can describe how both Liberty groups responded to British taxes and encouraged resistance.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think the French and Indian War was fought only between France and Native Americans, rather than rival empires with Native allies. They may think colonists opposed every tax, regardless of representation. They may assume the Boston Massacre was a large battle, the Tea Party was a social gathering, or women played no active role.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Put the French and Indian War, Stamp Act, Boston Massacre, and Boston Tea Party in order, then explain one cause-and-result link.
