Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students explain that goods and services usually go to buyers who are willing and able to pay the price. They use simple examples to show how price changes who can buy.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given buyer budgets and a listed price, students identify who can choose to buy and who cannot. They predict how raising or lowering the price changes the group of possible buyers.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think price shows how good an item is or that the highest-priced choice is always best. They may assume anyone who wants something receives it, even without enough money. They may also forget that services, such as haircuts, have prices.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: “A bike rental costs $8. Luis has $5, Tia has $8, and Noor has $12. Who could rent a bike, and how does the price affect who receives the service?”

Lesson moves

Give groups play money, price tags, and six classroom items; run a store where students buy, then explain which prices shaped purchases.
Write: “A popular snack rises from $1 to $3. Who might stop buying it, and why?” Then compare responses with a partner.
Play Price Match: students pair buyer budget cards with goods and service cards they can afford, then explain one rejected match.
Use a grocery ad or salon menu; give students $10 to choose purchases, total costs, and explain how prices shaped their choices.
