What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students name the president, governor, and mayor as elected executive leaders. They match each official to the White House, Georgia State Capitol, or city hall.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students correctly match each office to its level of government and workplace. They can explain that the president leads the nation, the governor leads Georgia, and the mayor leads a city.

Common Misconceptions

Students may confuse the governor with the mayor or think all elected leaders work in Washington, D.C. They may also treat the White House as only a home, not a workplace.

How to Assess It

Give students three official cards and three workplace cards. Ask them to match each pair and label the level as nation, state, or city.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Set up three labeled stations with building photos, then have students place president, governor, and mayor cards at the correct workplace.

  2. Ask students to write: Which elected leader would you contact about a city problem, and where would that person work?

  3. Play a matching relay using cards for officials, workplaces, and government levels, with teams building three correct sets.

  4. Use a local map and online photos to locate city hall, the Georgia State Capitol, and the White House.
