What Students Need to Do: Students tell whether an example is an item or work someone does. They name familiar examples and explain their choices.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student independently sorts picture cards into goods and services. The student explains that a book is an item, while a haircut is work done.
Common Misconceptions: Students may call anything that costs money a good, including a haircut. They may name the worker, such as doctor, instead of the service, such as medical care.
How to Assess It: Show pictures of a loaf of bread and a haircut. Ask students to label each as a good or service and tell why.

Lesson moves

Sort classroom objects and job photo cards into Goods and Services hoops, then explain one placement.
Draw one good and one service your family uses, then complete: "A ___ is a ___ because ___."
Play Goods or Services corners by naming examples such as bike repair, apple, or bus ride as students move to the matching corner.
Walk through the school and list items made for students and work that staff members do for them.
