What Students Need to Do
- Students choose accurate evidence that clearly explains a historical topic. They add facts, definitions, details, examples, or quotations and show how each one supports the explanation.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student writes a focused paragraph with several specific pieces of evidence from reliable sources. Each detail connects to the topic and helps the reader understand it better.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may list facts without explaining how they connect to the topic. They may choose interesting but unrelated details, copy long quotations, or treat opinions as evidence.
How to Assess It
- Give students five facts about ancient Egypt and ask them to choose two that best explain the importance of the Nile. They must justify each choice.
