- Students multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, and mixed numbers with a strategy they choose. They explain what each answer means and use these operations to solve word problems.

- Students accurately solve multiplication and division problems with whole numbers, fractions, and mixed numbers using a strategy they can explain. They label answers, connect them to the problem context, and check whether results are reasonable.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may multiply denominators during division instead of using the reciprocal. They may forget to convert mixed numbers, cancel across addition, or misread how many groups fit into a quantity.
How to Assess It
- Give an exit ticket: “A 3 1/2-pound bag is divided into 1/4-pound servings. How many servings are made?” Require an equation, solution, and explanation.
