Expectations in This Standard
4.NR.5 is a Georgia mathematics standard. These are the expectations under it.

What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students solve everyday problems by adding, matching, and comparing tenths and hundredths. They use visual models to connect fractions such as 6/10 and 60/100 with decimals such as 0.6 and 0.60.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students use hundred grids, fraction strips, or number lines to represent and solve a situation. They correctly explain equivalence and comparisons using place value or matching-sized parts.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think more decimal digits make a number larger, so 0.45 is greater than 0.5. They may compare numerators only or miss that 5/10, 50/100, and 0.50 name the same amount.
How to Assess It
- Give this exit ticket: “Maya walked 3/10 mile, then 25/100 mile. How far did she walk, and is it more than 0.5 mile? Show a model.”

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs hundred grids to shade 4/10 and 35/100, then combine the shaded amounts and write a fraction and decimal.
Ask students to explain why 7/10 is greater than 68/100 using a drawing, place value language, or both.
Play Compare and Capture by turning over decimal cards, modeling each number on grids, and keeping both cards when the comparison is correct.
Use store prices to compare $0.60 and $0.56, then find the total cost of two items priced under one dollar.
