Georgia 4.NR.5.2
The Standard
Represent, read, and write fractions with denominators of 10 or 100 using decimal notation, and decimal numbers to the hundredths place as fractions, using concrete materials and drawings.
Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards · Solve real-life problems involving addition, equivalence, comparison of fractions with denominators of 10 and 100, and comparison of decimal numbers as tenths and hundredths using part-whole strategies and visual models.

What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use tenths strips, hundred grids, or drawings to show amounts less than one. They write each amount as both a fraction and a decimal through the hundredths place.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a shaded hundred grid, the student can write 0.37 and 37/100. The student can model 4/10, write 0.4, and explain why 0.40 names the same amount.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may read 0.4 as four hundredths or write it as 4/100. They may think 0.40 is larger than 0.4 because it has more digits.
How to Assess It
- Give an exit ticket with two items: shade 0.37 on a hundred grid and write the fraction, then write 6/10 as a decimal.

Ways to Teach It
Give students hundred grids and base-ten blocks to model 0.36, then label the same amount as 36/100.
Ask, “How are 0.4 and 0.40 alike and different?” Students write an answer and support it with a drawing.
Play a matching game with cards showing decimals, fractions, shaded tenths strips, and shaded hundred grids.
Use a dollar grid to connect 7/10 of a dollar with $0.70 and 23/100 with $0.23.
