What Students Need to Do
- Students identify familiar symbols linked to Florida, such as the state flag and seal. They explain that these images stand for the state.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given mixed pictures, students correctly select the Florida symbols. They name or describe each symbol and say that it represents Florida.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse Florida symbols with United States symbols, such as the American flag or bald eagle. They may also choose any object commonly seen in Florida.
How to Assess It
- Show the Florida flag, United States flag, and two unrelated pictures. Ask students to point to the Florida symbol and explain their choice.
