What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how buyers and sellers make choices about goods and services. They describe how supply, demand, prices, competition, and profit affect those choices.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can identify producers and consumers in a scenario. They can explain why a price might rise or fall and how competition can change business decisions.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think a market must be a physical place. They may believe sellers can charge any price without affecting demand, or that profit means total sales.
How to Assess It
- Give this exit ticket: Two stores sell the same toy, but one lowers its price. Explain how buyers and the other store might respond.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups play money and classroom goods, then change the supply and record how prices and buying choices respond.
Ask students to write why two pizza shops on the same street might offer different prices, sizes, or toppings.
Play a supply and demand card game where event cards change available goods or the number of buyers.
Compare prices for one grocery item at three local stores, then list reasons the prices may differ.
