What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name Florida’s two current U.S. senators and the U.S. representative for their congressional district. They match each person to the Senate or House and explain whom each represents.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can find the current officeholders using an official government source. The student correctly distinguishes senators, who represent all Floridians, from House members, who represent one district.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think senators represent districts or that one House member represents the entire state. They may also confuse federal lawmakers in Washington with state officials in Tallahassee.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Write the names of Florida’s two U.S. senators and your district’s U.S. representative. Label each person’s chamber and constituency.
