What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain why people may invest part of the money they have saved. They describe how an investment may grow over time, while recognizing that growth is not guaranteed.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can separate earning, saving, and investing in a simple money example. The student can explain that investments offer possible growth over time and may also lose value.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think saving and investing are the same, or that all invested money grows quickly. They may also believe investment gains are guaranteed or available to spend immediately.
How to Assess It
- Use this exit ticket: “Lena saved $100 from her income. Why might she invest some of it, and what risk should she remember?”
