What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students divide a fixed income among needs, wants, and savings. They record each amount and make sure the total does not exceed the income.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can create a balanced budget and calculate the money left after each choice. The student can explain why the plan includes savings and limited spending.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat income as extra spending money or plan to spend more than they receive. They may confuse needs with wants or save only if money happens to remain.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: You receive $50. Create a budget showing amounts for needs, wants, and savings, then prove your total stays within $50.
