What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare buying choices and identify the best option they must give up. They explain that the lost option may have value beyond its price.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a budget and several choices, students select one item and name their next preferred choice. They clearly explain what was sacrificed and why it mattered.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse opportunity cost with the price paid. They may list every rejected option instead of only the next best choice. Some think the unwanted option is the cost.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Maya prefers a $10 game, then an $8 book, then a $7 puzzle. If she buys the game, identify and explain her opportunity cost.
