What Students Need to Do: Students explain why people move from other countries to Florida. They describe how newcomers affect population, schools, jobs, businesses, languages, food, and community traditions.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students give accurate Florida examples and connect each impact to immigration. They explain a cause and effect, such as growing communities creating demand for multilingual school services.
Common Misconceptions: Students may confuse immigrants with tourists or people moving to Florida from another state. They may assume all immigrants share one language, culture, or reason for moving. They may focus only on food and festivals while overlooking jobs, schools, and public services.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: Name one reason people immigrate to Florida, then explain two ways their arrival can affect a Florida community.
