What Mastery Looks Like: Students can name effects such as permanent settlement at St. Augustine, Catholic missions, new livestock, and stronger Spanish claims. They also explain disease, conflict, and Native population loss.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think Spanish control lasted without interruption or that all Native groups accepted mission life. They may also confuse Spanish explorers with permanent settlers.
How to Assess It: Give students this exit prompt: Name two effects of Spanish rule in Florida, including one effect on Native peoples, and explain each connection.

Lesson moves
