What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify a person’s role in a simple exchange. They explain who makes or provides something, who offers it for sale, and who purchases it.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly label people in pictures or short scenarios as buyers, sellers, or producers. They understand that one person can have different roles at different times.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse the seller with the person who made the item. They may also think a person always has one role or that only physical goods are produced.
How to Assess It
- Give students a picture of a baker selling bread to a customer. Ask them to label the producer, seller, and buyer, then explain each choice.

Ways to Teach It
Set up a paper fruit market where students rotate through making fruit, selling it, and buying it with play coins.
Ask students to write who makes, sells, and buys their favorite snack, then compare answers with a partner.
Play a role-card sorting game using short scenarios about stores, restaurants, hair salons, and neighborhood yard sales.
Study a grocery receipt and store photo, then identify the buyers, sellers, and people who produced the listed items.
