- MA.8.DP.2.1
Determine the sample space for a repeated experiment.
- MA.8.DP.2.2
Find the theoretical probability of an event related to a repeated experiment.
- MA.8.DP.2.3
Solve real-world problems involving probabilities related to single or repeated experiments, including making predictions based on theoretical probability.

What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students show all possible outcomes from an experiment repeated two or more times using a tree diagram, table, or organized list. They calculate the probability of a stated event from that representation.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students create a complete tree diagram, table, or organized list for repeated trials. They multiply probabilities along paths, combine matching outcomes, and state the probability in a correct form.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may add stage probabilities when they should multiply them. They may omit ordered outcomes, treat “red then blue” as the same as “blue then red,” or confuse “exactly one” with “at least one.”
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: A fair coin is flipped three times. Draw a tree diagram and find the probability of getting exactly two heads.

Ways to Teach It
In pairs, spin a four-color spinner twice 30 times, tally ordered outcomes, and compare the results with a complete tree diagram.
Ask students to explain why red then blue and blue then red must appear as separate outcomes in an organized list.
Play Probability Match by pairing event cards, such as exactly two heads, with the correct tree diagram and probability card.
Use a basketball player’s 70 percent free-throw rate to find the chances of making both, one, or neither of two shots.
