Students share ideas aloud in a clear, organized way for a specific audience and purpose. They listen to others, respond thoughtfully, and use appropriate volume, pace, language, and evidence.

Students organize ideas, use relevant details, and speak at an understandable pace and volume. They listen closely, answer questions directly, and build on others' comments.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think speaking loudly is the same as speaking clearly. They may read slides word for word, ignore time limits, or respond without listening to others.

How to Assess It

Give students 60 seconds to explain whether phones should be allowed during lunch, using one claim, two reasons, and clear eye contact.

   Give pairs topic cards and three minutes to build a one-minute talk using note cards, then practice pace, volume, and eye contact.

   Ask students to discuss which matters more in a presentation, strong evidence or confident delivery, and support their choice with an example.

   Play Speaking Skills Bingo while classmates present, marking examples of clear claims, relevant details, steady pace, eye contact, and direct responses.

   Have students record a school announcement about an upcoming event, then revise it for clarity, audience, tone, and a 30-second time limit.
