What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students review comments from people and digital tools, then judge which suggestions will improve a draft. They make substantial revisions and explain their choices.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students make changes that improve focus, organization, wording, and flow. They can explain why they accepted, adapted, or rejected each suggestion.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat every comment as a command or reject feedback they dislike. They may confuse proofreading with revision. Online tools may introduce errors, flatten voice, or change meaning.
How to Assess It
- Give students a short draft and three feedback comments. Ask them to revise the draft, reject one comment, and explain both choices.

Ways to Teach It
Print a sample draft and feedback on separate slips, then have pairs sort, apply, adapt, or reject each suggestion.
Ask students to write: Which feedback made your draft stronger, and which suggestion did you reject? Explain with evidence from your revision.
Play Revision Triage by giving teams five comments and three minutes to rank them from most useful to least useful.
Revise a workplace email after reviewing comments from a supervisor, a coworker, and an online grammar tool. Report which advice helped.
