What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students organize group work so everyone knows the shared outcome, their own responsibility, and when tasks are due. They use fair decision rules and respectful talk to include all voices.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students agree on a specific outcome, divide work fairly, and record who will complete each task by a set date. They invite different views, disagree respectfully, and use an agreed process to reach decisions.

Common Misconceptions

Students may treat politeness as agreement or assume the loudest person should decide. They may assign titles without clear duties, skip deadlines, or let one person do most of the work.

How to Assess It

Give groups 10 minutes to plan a class event. Collect a written plan naming the goal, decision method, task owners, and two deadlines, then observe whether each member contributes.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give each group task cards, role cards, and a blank calendar to build a complete plan for a mock school event.

  2. Ask students to write: How should a group respond when one member dominates and another stays silent?

  3. Run a five-minute meeting challenge where groups earn points for balanced participation, clear task assignments, and a recorded decision.

  4. Have teams plan a real class fundraiser, including a voting method, assigned duties, checkpoints, and a final deadline.
