What Students Need to Do: Students observe temperature, clouds, wind, and precipitation each day. They connect repeated weather patterns to each season while recognizing that conditions can vary.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students can identify a likely season from weather observations and explain their evidence. They can also name weather that is typical, but not guaranteed, in each season.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think winter always brings snow or summer is always sunny. They may also confuse the day’s weather with the season itself.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: Show three weather pictures and ask, “Which season is most likely, and what weather clues helped you decide?”

Lesson moves

Make a four-season weather wheel using paper plates, weather symbols, and movable arrows.
Write about this prompt: “What weather do you often notice in your favorite season?”
Play a card sort where students match weather pictures to likely seasons, then explain any cards that could fit more than one.
Check tomorrow’s forecast and choose clothing that fits both the predicted weather and the current season.
