What Students Need to Do

Students build or use objects to show how a simple event happens. They explain what each part represents and demonstrate the process with the model.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student can use a flashlight and foam ball to show light and darkness. The student can name what the objects represent and describe what the model shows.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think a model must look exactly like the real object. They may treat the model as a toy or confuse the model with the real process.

How to Assess It

Give each student a flashlight and foam ball. Ask, “Use these objects to show how one side can be light while the other is dark.”
