What Students Need to Do
- Students count and compare information shown in simple tables, picture graphs, and object graphs. They use comparison words to tell which groups have more, fewer, greater, less, or equal amounts.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students identify category totals and compare two groups accurately. They support an answer by pointing to the matching rows, pictures, or objects.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may compare the size of pictures instead of counting them. They may reverse greater than and less than, or use less when comparing countable objects instead of fewer.
How to Assess It
- Show a picture graph with 6 cats, 4 dogs, and 6 fish. Ask, “Which groups are equal, and which group has fewer than cats?”
