What Students Need to Do: Students turn what they know about a history or civics topic into a clear product for an audience. They choose accurate facts, organize them, and use words, visuals, or data to explain their understanding.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can create a focused poster, presentation, timeline, model, or written piece with accurate details. Each part supports a clear main idea and is labeled or explained.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think a colorful product shows understanding even when facts are thin or disconnected. They may copy source wording, add unlabeled images, or list events without explaining relationships.
How to Assess It: Create a one-page mini exhibit about today’s topic. Include one clear claim, two accurate details, and a captioned visual that supports the claim.

Lesson moves

Give pairs five source cards and poster paper to build a museum panel with a claim, three facts, and labeled visuals.
Ask students, “Which detail in your product best proves your main idea, and why?”
Play Product Fix-It: teams revise a flawed timeline, poster, or slide by correcting facts, labels, and organization.
Have students create a visitor brochure for a local historic site, using three researched facts and a map or image caption.
