What Students Need to Do: Students create a report, infographic, presentation, or other product using reliable sources. They select evidence, explain civic or economic ideas accurately, and organize information for a clear audience and purpose.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student makes a clear claim, supports it with relevant evidence, and credits sources. The product accurately explains ideas such as rights, responsibilities, scarcity, incentives, costs, and benefits.
Common Misconceptions: Students may copy facts without explaining how the evidence supports their claim. They may treat opinions as evidence, omit citations, or confuse civic responsibilities with economic choices.
How to Assess It: Give students two short sources about a proposed bus fare increase. Ask them to make a four-box mini-poster with a claim, evidence from both sources, one civic effect, and one economic tradeoff.

Lesson moves

Give groups source cards about a school policy, then have them build a paper infographic with a claim, evidence, citations, and one tradeoff.
Ask students to answer, "Which evidence best supports your recommendation, and how does the proposal affect citizens, government, or limited resources?"
Run a source-sort relay where teams label cards reliable, questionable, or irrelevant, then earn a point by defending each choice.
Have students create a one-page brief for the principal on a cafeteria issue, including stakeholder views, costs, benefits, and a sourced recommendation.
