What Students Need to Do: Students identify what happened and what made it happen in a simple historical or community event. They connect an action to a result using a short text, image, or timeline.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can name the action and its result in the correct order. The student can explain the link using words such as because, so, or as a result.
Common Misconceptions: Students may reverse the order and say the result happened first. They may also match events simply because both appear in the same story, even when one did not lead to the other.
How to Assess It: Show a picture of a crowded road followed by a picture of a new bridge. Ask students to write what likely led to the bridge and one result.

Lesson moves

Give pairs picture cards showing a community event, and have them physically match each action card with its result card.
Read a short account of a new town road, then ask, “Why was it built, and what changed afterward?”
Play Cause or Result: read event statements, and students hold up C or R cards before explaining one match.
Examine a school rule, such as walking in hallways, and list what led to the rule and what happens because of it.
