What Students Need to Do: Students identify jobs they can do at home, at school, and in the community. They explain how giving their time and using their abilities helps other people.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students can name a job, describe the work involved, and tell who benefits. They can suggest a helpful job that fits their own abilities.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think only paid work counts as a job or contribution. They may believe a talent must be unusual, rather than a skill like reading, organizing, cleaning, or listening.
How to Assess It: Give an exit ticket that says, “Draw one job you can do to help others. Label who it helps and how it helps.”

Lesson moves

Set up classroom helper stations for sorting books, organizing supplies, watering plants, and wiping tables, then rotate students through each job.
Ask, “What job could you do well to help at home, at school, or in your neighborhood?”
Have students sort job picture cards into home, school, and community groups, then explain one choice to a partner.
Interview a custodian, librarian, crossing guard, or family member about how their work helps others, then make a thank-you card.
