What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students organize an oral report or opinion so listeners can follow the ideas. They plan a question, poll, discussion, response collection, or movement task that involves the audience and supports the message.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student gives a clear opening, presents ideas in a logical order, and ends with a conclusion. The student gives clear participation directions, gathers responses, and connects those responses back to the topic.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat “Any questions?” at the end as meaningful participation. They may give vague directions, choose an interaction unrelated to the topic, or let responses derail the presentation.
How to Assess It
- Have each student give a one-minute opinion on school uniforms and include one planned audience poll. Check for clear organization, clear poll directions, and a connection between the results and the opinion.

Ways to Teach It
Students arrange introduction, detail, interaction, and conclusion cards, then rehearse a short presentation using a stand-or-sit audience poll.
Students write a response to: Which audience interaction would best support your topic, and what would you say to introduce it?
Play Interaction Match, where teams pair presentation topics with question cards, quick polls, partner discussions, or movement prompts.
Students present a proposal for a class celebration, gather audience votes on two options, and explain how the results affect the plan.
