What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan and deliver a clear oral presentation about a topic, text, story, or experience. They include a planned question, response, discussion, or movement that involves the audience.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students present information or events in a clear sequence with relevant details. They smoothly cue a question, response, brief discussion, or movement that supports their message.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat audience participation as random interruptions or rely only on asking, "Any questions?" They may add an activity that does not connect to the presentation or breaks its sequence.
How to Assess It
- Ask each student to give a one-minute book talk with a clear beginning, middle, and end, plus one planned audience question or action.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups event cards and audience cue cards, then have them arrange and deliver a short, interactive story in sequence.
Write a three-part talk plan and answer: Where will the audience participate, and how will that interaction support your message?
Play Audience Cue Match by pairing presentation topics with useful interactions, then explain why each question, poll, or movement fits.
Create a two-minute museum guide talk that asks visitors to observe, point, vote, or discuss one feature of an exhibit.
