What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students identify the skills, education, experience, and traits that fit a specific job, internship, scholarship, or college program. They present those qualifications clearly and support them with concrete examples.

What Mastery Looks Like

A strong response names the opportunity and selects qualifications that match its stated requirements. It uses specific evidence, accurate details, professional tone, and a clear format.

Common Misconceptions

Students often list generic traits such as “hardworking” without proof. They may include unrelated experiences, summarize their whole life, or describe future goals instead of current qualifications.

How to Assess It

Give students a short internship posting. Ask, “Write a six-sentence qualifications statement that names three relevant qualifications and supports each with evidence.”

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give pairs a job posting and qualification cards, then have them sort the cards into strong matches, weak matches, and unrelated details.

  2. Ask students to write about one skill they have, then explain when they used it and what result it produced.

  3. Play Evidence Match by having teams pair claims such as “reliable” with specific examples that prove each claim.

  4. Have students choose a real job, scholarship, or college program and draft a tailored qualifications paragraph using details from its posting.
