What Students Need to Do: Students use time words to tell when events happen and put familiar events in order. They describe sequences from a school day, personal experience, or simple story.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given three pictures, a student puts them in order and explains what happened first, next, and last. The student also uses before, after, yesterday, today, and tomorrow accurately.
Common Misconceptions: Students may confuse yesterday with tomorrow or think both mean any day outside today. They may switch before and after or use next when they mean last.
How to Assess It: Show pictures of planting a seed, watering it, and seeing a sprout. Ask the student to order them, describe the sequence, and identify what happened before and after watering.

Lesson moves

Give students picture cards of a school routine to order, then have them describe the sequence to a partner.
Ask, "What did you do yesterday, what are you doing today, and what might you do tomorrow?"
Play Sequence Simon Says with directions such as, "First touch your head, next clap, and last sit down."
Use the class calendar each morning to name yesterday, today, tomorrow, and events that happen before or after lunch.
