What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students connect an innovation to changes in Texas jobs, settlement, production, health, or the environment. They explain benefits and costs using historical evidence.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can trace a cause-and-effect chain, such as irrigation increasing farm output and settlement in dry regions. They can compare innovations and support conclusions with facts.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may name an invention without explaining how it changed Texas. They may assume every effect was positive or immediate, or confuse national inventions with their use in Texas.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Choose air conditioning, irrigation, or hydraulic fracturing. Write a three-step cause-and-effect chain, including one benefit and one cost for Texas.
