What Students Need to Do: Students explain how honesty, fair treatment, and keeping promises build trust among buyers, workers, and businesses. They predict how unethical choices can harm people, competition, and future transactions.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given a business scenario, students identify the ethical issue and who is affected. They defend a responsible response and explain how it supports trust and fair competition.
Common Misconceptions: Students may assume that every legal action is ethical, or that earning a profit is automatically unethical. They may also think dishonest conduct harms only the immediate buyer or worker.
How to Assess It: Give this exit ticket: “A store knowingly sells a mislabeled product. Who is affected, and how could this choice damage future business?”

Lesson moves

Give groups scenario cards to sort into ethical, unethical, or unclear, then require one reason for each placement.
Ask students to write: “Should a business admit a costly mistake when customers have not noticed? Explain the likely results.”
Play a trust market game where sellers choose accurate or false product descriptions and buyers decide whether to purchase again.
Examine a local store’s return policy and identify how its rules balance customer trust, fairness, and business costs.
