- Students recognize well-known landmarks and tell whether each belongs to a local community, Texas, or the nation. They explain what each place represents and why people value it.

- A student can name a pictured landmark, place it at the correct geographic level, and describe its purpose. The explanation includes a clear historical or civic reason it matters.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think every old or famous building is a landmark. They may confuse monuments with government buildings or describe appearance instead of explaining historical or civic meaning.
How to Assess It
- Show pictures labeled City Hall and the Statue of Liberty. Ask students to choose one, identify its geographic level, and write why it matters.
