What Students Need to Do

Students use a given input rule to calculate output values and organize them in a table. They write the results as ordered pairs and plot them on a coordinate grid.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student correctly extends multiplicative and additive patterns for several input values. The student plots each pair with x first, uses a consistent scale, and explains how the rule connects the coordinates.

Common Misconceptions

Students may read ax as a + x or multiply in both rule forms. They may switch x and y, miscalculate from x = 0, or use uneven intervals on the graph.

How to Assess It

Give students y = 3x and x-values 0, 1, 2, and 4. Ask them to complete a table, list the ordered pairs, and graph them.
