What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students give products for factor pairs through 10 without counting each time. They use each known multiplication fact to give the related quotients.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student answers mixed facts through 10 quickly and accurately without counters, charts, or repeated addition. Given one multiplication fact, the student states both related division facts.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may reverse the dividend and divisor or treat division as commutative. They may mix up facts involving 0 and 1 or rely on skip-counting for every answer.
How to Assess It
- Give a two-minute exit ticket with 12 mixed multiplication and division facts, plus one prompt asking students to write a related fact family.

Ways to Teach It
Build arrays with counters, then write the two multiplication equations and two related division equations for each array.
Ask, "How can knowing 7 times 8 help you solve 56 divided by 7?" and have students explain in writing.
Play a partner card match where students pair multiplication cards with their related division cards, then read each complete fact family aloud.
Use classroom seating plans to find totals from equal rows, then divide the same total into equal groups.
