What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use information collected with an adult from books, pictures, videos, observations, or interviews. They show what they learned by speaking, drawing, writing, or acting it out.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can share a correct fact through speaking, drawing, writing, or acting. The student can answer a simple question about the fact and connect it to the class topic.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may repeat one fact without knowing what it means. They may also mix up facts from the source with their own guesses or unrelated experiences.
How to Assess It
- After a short read-aloud about an animal, ask each student to draw one fact and explain the drawing using the frame, “I learned that...”

Read a picture book about frogs, then have students build a frog habitat model and explain two details they included.
