What Students Need to Do
- Students use a clear research question to search books, articles, websites, databases, and other sources. They select details that directly help answer the question and record where each detail came from.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student selects useful facts from at least two different source types. The chosen details clearly answer the research question, and each detail is linked to its source.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may collect facts that are interesting but do not answer the research question. They may rely on one website, copy whole passages, or forget where information came from.
How to Assess It
- Give students three short sources and one research question. Ask them to select two relevant details from different sources and label each source.

Set up stations with a book, article, website printout, and infographic, then have students gather one relevant fact from each.
Ask students to explain in writing why one fact answers a research question and another fact does not.
