- Students decide what information will help answer a research question. They locate and record useful facts from more than one type of source.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students choose facts that clearly help answer a focused research question. They collect useful details from books, articles, websites, interviews, or other appropriate sources.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may copy facts simply because they mention the topic. They may rely on one source, include repeated details, or choose sources that do not answer the research question.
How to Assess It
- Give students a research question and four short source excerpts. Ask them to select two useful excerpts from different sources and explain each choice.
