What Students Need to Do: Students record the details needed to identify each source they use. They format those details consistently and arrange the entries in alphabetical order.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students create complete entries for books and websites using the assigned format. They check punctuation, capitalization, and order, then alphabetize entries by the author's last name.
Common Misconceptions: Students may list only a title or paste a web link without other source details. They may alphabetize by title instead of the author's last name or use a different format for each entry.
How to Assess It: Give students one book title page and one website printout. Ask them to write two complete bibliography entries and place them in alphabetical order.

Give pairs three books and a website printout, then have them label the author, title, publisher, date, and URL with sticky notes.
Ask students to explain which source details would help another reader find the same book or website.
