What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can place major events in the correct plot stages and identify the turning point. They can explain a character’s change using specific actions, dialogue, and interactions. They connect the story’s time, place, or culture to what happens.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may state a one-word topic, such as friendship, instead of a theme. They may label the most exciting event as the climax without checking whether it changes the conflict. They often describe the setting but do not explain its effect on events.
How to Assess It
- Give students a one-page story and ask them to name the theme, cite one supporting detail, identify the climax, and explain one setting influence.
