What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students listen closely to directions with several connected steps and carry them out in the correct order. They also repeat directions accurately and explain steps clearly to others.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students complete several connected actions in the correct order after hearing them. They can repeat the directions clearly and give another person an ordered set of steps.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may remember the actions but perform them out of order. They may omit details when restating directions or confuse restating with adding their own steps.
How to Assess It
- Say, “Write your name, circle the first letter, fold the paper in half, and place it in the tray.” Have students restate the directions before acting.

Give pairs blocks; one student orally explains how to build a model behind a folder, and the partner follows each step.
Ask, “How do you prepare for dismissal?” Students explain the steps, then partners restate them in order.
