What Students Need to Do: Students listen to a short set of connected directions and complete each action in the right order. They repeat the steps clearly and give similar directions to someone else.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student completes two or three connected actions in the correct order without reminders. The student repeats directions accurately and gives a classmate clear steps using words such as first, next, and last.
Common Misconceptions: Students may begin before hearing every step, skip an action, or complete actions out of order. They may repeat key words but leave out the action or sequence.
How to Assess It: Say, “Touch your desk, pick up a pencil, then draw a circle.” Have the student complete the actions and tell a partner the directions in order.

Lesson moves

Give pairs three picture cards and classroom objects, then have one student arrange the cards and tell the partner what to do.
Ask, “How do you get ready for recess?” and have students explain the steps to a partner using sequence words.
Play Direction Relay, where students listen to three actions, perform them in order, then pass the same directions to the next player.
Have students explain the steps for washing hands, packing a backpack, or checking out a library book.
