What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students add facts, ideas, or examples that match the topic being discussed. They use clear, complete sentences and speak slowly enough for others to follow.
What Mastery Looks Like
- During partner or whole-class talk, the student gives relevant facts, examples, or opinions in complete sentences. Classmates can hear, follow, and restate the student’s main idea.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may share an unrelated personal story instead of responding to the group’s topic. Some speak too quickly, too quietly, or in sentence fragments that make the idea hard to follow.
How to Assess It
- Show a picture of a playground and ask each student to share one observation and one related idea. Check for relevance, clear speech, steady pace, and complete sentences.
