What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students take turns adding facts and ideas to a class or partner conversation. They stay on topic and speak clearly, slowly enough to understand, using complete thoughts and familiar grammar.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student shares a relevant fact or idea in complete, understandable sentences. The student uses an audible voice, a steady pace, and words that fit the class conversation.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may speak too softly, rush, or wander away from the topic. They may interrupt, answer with fragments, or use unclear pronouns such as “it” without naming the subject.
How to Assess It
- Ask each student to tell one fact about a class read-aloud in two clear sentences. Check for an audible voice, steady pace, complete thoughts, and topic focus.
