- Students may list events without putting them in order or explaining why the event mattered. They may think every poem must rhyme or that a personal story can be invented.
How to Assess It
- Give students a folded page. Ask them to write or dictate a three-event personal story on one side and a three-line poem about its feeling on the other.

Have students arrange three picture cards from a class event, orally rehearse the sequence, then write or dictate the story.
Ask, “Which small moment from your life do you remember clearly, and what did you see, hear, or feel?”
