What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students describe the plane shapes formed by slicing right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids. They compare slices made parallel and perpendicular to the base.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student predicts and names a cross section from the solid and slice direction. The student sketches the shape made by a slice parallel or perpendicular to the base.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may name the visible face of the solid instead of the new cross section. They may confuse a slice parallel to the base with one perpendicular to the base.
