What Mastery Looks Like: The student interprets 35 divided by 5 as finding the number that makes 5 times ? equal 35. The student uses a known product to find the quotient.
Common Misconceptions: Students may see multiplication and division as unrelated procedures. They may reverse the divisor and quotient when writing the related multiplication equation.
How to Assess It: Ask students to solve 48 divided by 6 by writing and using an unknown-factor multiplication equation. Require a sentence explaining the connection.
